A delivery rider turned suddenly, without looking, directly in front of me.
I warned him — “watch out.”
He laughed.
A passerby laughed too.

No collision happened, but the reaction was striking: the person who caused the danger found it funny, and so did a bystander. The one at risk was apparently the least entertaining part of the scene.

This wasn’t humor — it was carelessness dismissed as a joke. A small example of how easily attention, responsibility, and basic courtesy are waved away when nothing quite goes wrong.

Apparently, that was the punchline.
