Screetchy brakes prevented a head-on hit on “protected” bike lane

8th St "protected" bike lane. SUV does a right tun into Minna alleyway. Seems like starting from a parking spot right there. I can't see the car, and they can't really see me coming along until they're starting to block the lane. I slammed on the brake, they heard the screetch and thankfully hit their brake too. So close from a head-on crash.
But really showing the problem with those "protected bike lanes", where you're hidden behind parked cars. I'd rather have nothing in its place.
