Totally unnecessary close call

The pair of us were cruising along at about 40km/h. The ute sits 50m back from us for over 30 seconds, during which time there were numerous opportunities to safely pass on the second lane. Instead he waits, waits, waits before buzzing us with a sub-1 metre close call, despite the other lane being empty! Stupid, distracted or just out to scare?.
