Wing mirror hit

Sydney, Australia

26 Jul, 2018 - 8 years ago - on Kissing Point Road

Riding to work in July 2018, driver came so close the wing mirror hit me

Note that position of the left side mirror – it was folded back after hitting my elbow.

Fortunately, I had somehow sensed the closeness of the vehicle and eased my grip on the right handlebar. If I hadn’t, the contact would have pushed my right hand forward, along with the handlebar. I would have in turn lost control, fallen to the right, leaving me in the ground in in traffic doing perhaps 40km/h.
Anything but a fatality would have been a miracle.

Followed up with 6 months of police failure
I reported this promptly to and provided the video.
• Response to my initial follow-up was that it had been “disseminated to Cumberland Police Area Command (PAC) and has been reviewed by Senior Constable XXXX” August 27 2018
• A further follow up resulted in advice that the video had been misplaced. To help with this, I went back and provided copy of the video on a USB stick, was told this would be sent to send this to SC XXX
• I attempted further follow up with SC XXX over the next couple of months, to be told variously that he was on leave or been assigned other duties at that moment.
Time passed and I received no response
• Mid-late January 2019, nearly six months after the incident I personally visited XXXX's Station, speaking to a Traffic officer there. I showed him the video and gave him a copy. He agreed that there was a substantial issue for investigation, but he would not be able to complete an investigation before 6 months had passed and regulations would prevent issuing an infringement.
To his credit, he did contact the driver, discusses it with her and gave an informal warning.
